Holi at Valmark

Colours for vibrant interiors

As the curtains close on the month of March, the exciting Holi festivities draw nearer. The day being all about colours brings along with it lots of vibrancy in the festivities, celebrations, and togetherness. This is one of the few occasions that give us reason to present ourselves in the most colourful ways possible – be it through our attire or personalities. But it shouldn’t just stop with us. We should let the colourful spirits splash over into our home decors as well – not necessarily to match the festivities, but the overall theme of colours.

Colour psychology plays a huge role in the presentation of interior decor. Simply put, the different colours, hues, and shades used will have varied impacts resulting in different perceptions of your home. Colours that are too strong or dull can evoke feelings that are on the extreme end of the spectrum. And apart from individual colours, there are those that work well when paired/grouped together to create an even nicer personality to your home.

Beige

This colour has become popular as the go-to colour for those seeking a ‘neutral’ look. But don’t be fooled by the ‘neutral’, because by no means does it mean boring. Beige works best on walls, especially large walls in rooms such as the living room. It’s striking appearance gives it the ability to work in all kinds of lighting conditions, whether the room is dimly lit or nicely lit (preferably by natural light). Beige also goes very well with all kinds of different colours that are on furniture or other interior decor elements.

Brown and green

Though this may sound like an unusual combination copied straight from a tree, this is a pair of colours that have a very unique aesthetic of nature to it. Spending time in nature leaves us feeling calm, relaxed, relieved, among other positive feelings. So, why not try to bring those feelings to your own home with the help of nature’s colour palette? When it comes to the brown and green, it can’t just be any ordinary brown and green. For brown, look for: earthy brown, walnut brown, soil brown, or pecan brown. For green, look for: leaf green, fern green, olive green, or pear green. The right combination of the brown and green you ultimately opt for would give your room a slightly darker feel to it, so make sure the room is very generously lit by the sun’s light.

Orange and white

This colour combination may immediately strike a nostalgic memory in people as the colours used on their favourite childhood candies! When you stop and think about it, there is a simple reason for this particular combination: orange and white put together immediately induces a smile on people’s faces. Not just on candy, but in room decor too! The sense of joy shining from the orange colour paired with the clean purity of white collectively gives out a cheerful feeling, which is the ideal feeling for a home atmosphere.

Grey on grey

A fine example of a monochrome palette, two different shades of gray can produce stunning results. Grey is usually seen as a complementary colour, meaning a colour that works as a secondary colour to another brighter/more vibrant primary colour. But grey also stands out on its own due to its elegance. Pairing to shades of grey together adds a classy feel to the interior and also helps accentuate other decor elements through contrast.

This Holi season, splash your home decor with new colours. Even as the festive celebrations subside, your interiors will shine vibrantly throughout the year/years.
